Reliance’s JioMeet video conference app is launched to fill the void created by Zoom

After a ban on 59 Chinese made mobile applications by the Indian Government different industries are searching for Indian alternatives of the banned apps due to security reasons. Among those banned apps one of the popular ones was Zoom which was used by many corporate bodies to make video conference meetings, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. But now Zoom is not available on the Google Play Store which has become a reason of concern for many, but Reliance has recently launched a video conferencing app named “JioMeet” in order to fill the void made by Zoom.

According to sources, Reliance’s JioMeet video-conferencing app is officially out of beta and is now available for users as a free mobile application available both on Android and iOS platforms. However, desktop users need not sadden as there is a standalone desktop version of the application website accessible on both Windows and Mac platforms. Apart from the Made in India tag, JioMeet is totally free to use. This the application will give you the advantage to simultaneously call up to 100
people with no time limit. Using the JioMeet app you are able to make uninterrupted video calls for 24 hours with scheduling and screen sharing which is also offered in the app.

• The application supports one-to-one video calling and the users can even host a meeting including 100 participants same as Zoom Video Conferencing App.
• The application offers unlimited high-definition video calls.
• The application offers free calls for 24 hours with no time restriction.
• Users are able to send text and voice messages, files, and images to one another using JioMeet seamlessly.
• The application can hold meetings that can be scheduled according to your time, and it has an active speaker layout, password-protected
meetings, waiting room, and screen-sharing feature as well.
• The multi-device login support, enabling up to 5 devices to log in at the same time and the devices can be switched during ongoing calls.

Process of starting a JioMeet call –

Starting a call on JioMeet is very simple all you need to do is sign up with your name and phone number, and then enter OTP sent to your phone, simply verify yourself by putting in the OTP and you are all set for a call. Now you have to –

• Click on the New Meeting option provided on the home screen.
• Select accordingly if you want to keep the video on or off and simply generate a personal meeting ID.
• Click on “Start Meeting”.
• Invite the participants you want to have a meeting with by clicking on participant option and then on invite. There is an option to mute or un-mute participants when they join a meeting.

Process of joining a call or a meeting on JioMeet –

The application is designed to be accessed either with your phone number or a valid e-mail ID. However, in terms of group calls, the users need a Meeting ID to invite or to join the video calling session quite the same as Zoom. For those users who like to join meeting or calls using their desktop or laptop version of the app, can click on the personal link name in order to directly connect or join to the meeting using their default browsers such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, thus eliminating the need to install the application separately.

The best thing about JioMeet is that it is a reliable application when compared to Zoom with no security threats looming. According to the developers of the application, the meetings that are held using the app are totally encrypted but are not the same as end-to-end encryption.
